Step Brothers

Step Brothers
starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. The film will be released July 25, 2008.

Oh, Will Ferrell...What am I going to do with you? You are constantly making all these movies where you act completely ridiculous. Haven't you got it that the audience is getting tired of it? Since Talladega Nights, you career has been on the steady decline. Is this going to save you? Do you have enough faith in Dewey Cox to rescue your career? I like to believe everything will be wonderful, but I am scared. Where is did my favorite SNL alum go? Or the genious behind Elf?

Anyway, this story is about two grown men who still live with their single parents. Well, those two parents get married, so the grown boys are no longer the only child. First they hate each other, then they love each other, and then they hate each other, etc., etc. So basically all the laughs will come when these grown men act like little children, i.e. sleeping in bunk beds, jumping on a trampolin, you should get the picture by now!

Now I know I have been pretty harsh about this film, but Ferrell is going to have to do something amazing to make up to me all the awful movies I have set through believing in him! I will admit Walk Hard was a lot funnier than I expected, but I am on the fence about this. I would hate to think about what would happen if Ferrell lets me down again...

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 starring America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn which is set to be released August 8, 2008.

When I was in middle school, my grandmother gave me the first book of this series as a Christmas present. Of course, being the cool middle schooler that I was, I didn't really care much for it. Then, a couple years later, I was bored one summer and went through all my books. I read this book, and feel in love with the series. I have been following it very closely for sometime now!

A brief recap for those of you knew to the series, these books are about four best friends who were leaving each other for the first time. On one of their last days together, they went clothes shopping and found a pair of pants that happened to fit all of them perfectly! Not hard to imagine if they were all the same size, but they weren't. They were "magical" pants. But let me not confuse you. The story doesn't have anything to do with magic. The pants are there to connect the four characters. Each one ventures out and has to deal with her own issues. But they have each other and the pants.

Now, I have seen the first movie, and it is AMAZING! It stays very true to the book. I have also read all the other books, so I know what is suppose to happen in this film, if it is based solely on the book, but we all know they change things!. Anywho. I don't want to ruin any aspect of this film, but if you need a good movie to go to with your best friend, this would be the movie to do it! I was very surprised to see the trailer for it because I didn't know that they were going to make the sequel, but it was one of the best surprises I have received in a long time!

Space: The Final Frontier

STAR TREK

Star Trek starring Chris Pine, Eric Bana, Zachary Quinto and NOT William Shatner with a current release date of May 9, 2009.

Now I know it is not being released for another year, but I am extremely excited about this movie! I would consider myself a Trekkie when it comes to Star Trek vs. Wars. I don't know that much about the Klingon's history or which planet was the first ever place the USS Enterprise landed outside of our planet, but I do love the stories of them!

This trailer is really good about being a teaser and nothing else! Everybody knows they are making this film. They have to keep it in people's memory without giving to much away, and I think this film does exactly that. It gets people excited, but I still have no clue what is going to happen.

What I do know is that they are replacing Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and the rest of the crew with a much younger cast. They are brining back old Spock, but not old Kirk! I think harshly about J.J. Abrams (of LOST fame) for this decision. Shatner built the empire that is Star Trek and Abrams doesn't want to recognize that?

And, no matter how great this movie is or how wonderful the new Captain is, Jean-Luc Picard will ALWAYS be the best captain! Now HE would be great in this movie...

Wall*E

Wall*E starring John Ratzenberger, Sigourney Weaver and Fred Willard. The film is being released June 27, 2008.

Summer is here, and that only means one thing....time for another Pixar movie! I love Pixar films and am always looking forward to the next one coming out. I will admit, though, that I have been disappointed by the last few, but that is because I love Finding Nemo so much! The Incredibles and Ratatouille where both really good, but still, they don't compare to thoses fishes!

But the great thing about this film, is that it has been YEARS in the making. And when I say years, I mean years. This film was first concepted after the when the first Toy Story was being finished. The story goes that the Pixar creators sat around a table and discussed the next movies. They were 1. A Bug Life 2. Monster's Inc. 3. Finding Nemo and lastly 4. Wall*E. So as you can tell, this film has some fantastic company!

The story is about a robot who is left on trash infested earth while everybody else has left. When a space ship comes back, he hopes on. When he travels to the new world, he finds new things, a new way of life and even a new love! What I am really interested to see is how he communicates. In the trailer, he doesn't say anything except his broken name. Maybe he speaks, and maybe he doesn't, but whichever way, I can't wait to see that cute little robot on the silver screen!

Sex and the City - Take 2

IT IS FINALLY HERE!!!!

The full trailer for the Sex and the City movie was finally released! It is interesting what they show, especially the whole Mr. Big situation. So, from the trailer, Big and Carrie are suppose to get married, but Big backs out, but they are still in love and end up together by the end of the movie? Why do they have to have the most complicated love life? Also, the biggest surprise of the trailer was when Steve said "It was only once!" The most lovable guy in the whole film cheated on his wife? The fashion looks amazing, but of course we knew it would!

Now more than ever, I cannot wait until May 30 at 12.00 A.M.!

88 Minutes

88 MINUTES
starring Al Pacino, Benjamin Mackenzie and LeeLee Sobieski. This film will be released April 18, 2008.

Normally, I showcase upcoming movies that I haven't seen. But, in this instance, I have already seen this movie. With my schedule being so busy, I generally watch movies online now. I know it is bad for the industry, and eliminates movie trailers, but a girl has to do what a girl has to do right?

So instead of my predictions for this movie, I will give you a little bit of a review...

First, I saw this trailer when I saw the movie Vantage Point in the theater. It looked absolutely amazing! I mean, Pacino is in it! So I was pleasantly surprised when the movie showed up on davidmovie.com. (That site and watch-movies.net are my favorite sites to watch pirated movies!)

ABOUT THE MOVIE...

Well, the trailer makes it seem like there is this unexpected twist. The only problem is, it never came. It was a good story, but there just wasn't that moment that shocked me. About 20 minutes into the film, I was like "Do I already know who the killer is?" And by the end of the movie, it turns out I did. There was even a point when after everything was "resolved," that I thought, maybe it is coming, but no, no twist in this movie.

Also, the title was a little confusing. I know why he has 88 minutes to live. They made that clear, but I didn't see what it had to do with the rest of the story. There was no connection.

I don't want to discourage you from seeing the film, but you might want to wait and Netflix it or you can always watch it online now!

The Little Mermaid

While I was in New York, I got the opportunity to see The Little Mermaid on Broadway. It was a spectacular show. The costumes and sets were amazing. The songs...classic! It stayed close enough to the movie for me to love! I haven't seen the movie in a number of years, but I definitely need to go back and watch it. I thought posting this trailer would mix things up a bit. I love upcoming movie trailers because it is a preview into an unknown world, but I also like going back and watching old clips to see how well they promoted the movie.

I think Disney did an excellent job on this one!

This is VERY exciting...

This is great news for the movie trailer business!

Here is an excellent example of what they are talking about...

SXSW

Being a resident of Austin, one of the highlights of the year is always South By Southwest (SXSW), which always happens to take place during the University of Texas' spring break. Unfortunately, I don't get to partake in the wonderful festivities this year because I am going to New York City for the week. Out of all the wonderful showcases, there are two that really stand out to me...

HAROLD AND KUMAR 2

HAROLD AND KUMAR 2: ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY starring Kal Penn and John Cho. The film is being released April 25, 2008.

I am a HUGE fan of the original. I have been waiting for this film since the last second of the original. It is nice to see everybody return, including Neil Patrick Harris! Although, I think it will be interesting to see if they address his sexual orientation. In the last movie, NPH was a womanizer, and he has since come out to the public as gay. I also love David Krumholtz and Eddie Kaye Thomas as Goldstein and Rosenberg (a take on the classic Shakespearean characters Rosencrantz and Guildestern!)

21

21 starring Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth and Laurence Fishburne. The film is scheduled for release March 28, 2008.

By now, you have probably seen the thousands of television spots for this film. But I think it is worth mentioning that the film will be screening in Austin. The film is based on a true story, which means it will be awesome, since, I like to believe, they won't make million dollar movies on stories that are boring. I can't stand Bosworth, but my love for Spacey will compensate for her! And who doesn't want to take down the house? Vegas has taken a lot of my money, so I like seeing movies where the people win! That is why I love all the Ocean movies, or maybe it is just George Clooney!

The Love Guru

THE LOVE GURU starring Mike Myers, Jessica Alba, and Justin Timberlake, just to name a few. The feature film is set to be released June 20th.

Where do I even begin with this? Honestly, I have no idea what to expect. It looks like Austin Powers Four! Mr. Myers tends to keep to the format of what makes him money! This millennium, Myers has stuck to playing two characters, a giant green one and a disturbing horney one. The only other two movies (The Cat in the Hat and The View from the Top) he has been in, have both been flops! Not only is he sticking to the format, but he is sticking to the costars. Justin Timberlake (Shrek 3) and Verne Troyer (Mini Me) both have roles in the film. I wouldn't be surprised if Princess Fiona made a quick cameo.

The biggest thing I am worried about is Alba. She doesn't have the best history at the box office! A local radio DJ said, "I know a movie is going to be awful is she is in it." I tend to agree with that point. I thought Good Luck Chuck was good, but she could have easily been replaced! She is not a good actress, just a pretty one!

Lastly, I am waiting to see the guest stars. On big comedies, such as this one, there are always little cameos by some big names who want to think they are funny. Think back to the last Austin Powers - Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow and John Travolta! Jessica Simpson is listed in the credits, so that should be interesting. Myers is big enough were he can call his friends to play the most ridiculous parts. Who knows who will sing the opening credits with him this time!

Street Kings

Imdb.com's question of the day lead me to Forest Whitaker's page. On the page I was connected to this AMAZING trailer!

Street Kings starring Keanu Reeves, Hugh Laurie, Chris Evans, Common and Forest Whitaker. The release date is set at April 11.

I first got an American Gangster vibe from this trailer. But that is not a bad thing! I loved that movie, and feel that I will love this movie. By the look of the trailer, it looks like the cops are the bad men in this film.

It is nice to see Reeves' return. The past few years/critics haven't been to kind to him. His last box office success was the third installment of the Matrix. This movie should help return him to his "Neo" money.

And, to one of my favorite performers out there, Common: Why do you always have to be the bad guy? You are an amazing talent individual. I loved you in Smokin' Aces and American Gangster, and I know I will end up loving you in Wanted. I would just want to see a performance by the man that can write a song as beautiful and respectful as "The Light!" Is that so much to ask from you?

The Bank Job

As I was doing my research for this blog by seeing the movie Vantage Point (which is an AMAZING movie by the way!), I came across this gem of a trailer!

THE BANK JOB starring Jason Statham of Transporter fame has a scheduled release date of March 7.

This movie is based on a real bank robbery. It's one part Ocean's 11, one part Italian Job, with a pinch of British humor!

I love this trailer because it gives a lot of information away, but it throws a curveball when a character suggests there are other reasons for breaking into the vault!

PREDICTIONS:
The people are going to get caught. Since it is based on a true story, the trailer would have said "based on one of the greatest mysteries...," but it didn't and just said true story. So with that, we can do some research and find the ending, but I don't want to ruin the movie for myself and my readers, so I will just wait for the movie!

I have always preferred watching the movie than reading the book!

Sports: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

THE GOOD.

SPEED RACER starring Emile Hirsch, Susan Sarandon, Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox and John Goodman with a scheduled release date of May 9, 2008.

Usually, I don't really go for cartoon-to-reallife movies, but they usually surprise me! I didn't really watch the cartoon, although I have seen a few episodes. I am not really into car racing. I get really nervous going fast. But I think the studio has put in the money to make this movie good.

First is the graphics/action. The race scenes look amazing just from the preview, and there was some martial arts shown. They were smart saying that the movie was from the makers of the Matrix triology, those words alone will bring in millins of dollars!

The second great thing is the cast. Hirsch is fresh off his acclaimed performance from Into The Wild. Goodman and Sarandon are both timeless actors, Fox will forever have a cult following and Ricci will also star in the anticiapted movie Penelope.

THE BAD.

LEATHERHEADS starring George Clooney, John Krasinski and Renee Zellweger with a scheduled release date of April 4, 2008.

Don't get me wrong, I love George Clooney just as much as the next woman, but this movie just doesn't look very good. Clooney is at his best when he is suave, Sinatra-style! His portrayl of Daniel Ocean is amazing! That is the George Clooney I love. He also directs this movie. His past directions have done pretty well during the awards season, but I have a feeling the only award this movie will be up for is a Razzie!

Just from looking at the trailer, I feel the movie is going to rely to much on physical comedy. A person can only get hit so many times before it isn't funny.

One reason why I think I am worried is because of Zellweger. I don't get why people love her? I find her to be so annoying (with the exception of Bridget Jones, but that could just be Colin Firth)

THE UGLY.

SEMI-PRO starring Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson and Andre Benjamin with a release date of Feb. 29, 2008.

I am tired of Ferrell making all these corny sports movies. I didn't like Talladega Nights, I didn't like that ice-skating movie, so I don't think I will like this one either. Will Ferrell is to funny to have to stoop to this level!

Andre 3000 is really trying hard to make it as an actor. I love Four Brothers, but I am still waiting for the new album!

Get excited! Get VERY excited...

I have been waiting for this one FOREVER!!! I don't want to say anything about it, just experience it!

The Best and Worst of the Super Bowl ads

The two most important parts of the Super Bowl are...
1. The game
2. The commercials

This year's bunch of Super Bowl ads were quite disappointing, but, on the other hand, the game was fantastic. I guess we can't have both!

But for me, there was something different about this crop of ads: They featured more movie trailers! Of course, I am in total support of this movement and would LOVE to have commercials strictly be movie trailers!

So in honor of the amazing game last Sunday, here is my pick for the best and worst movie trailers from the Super Bowl!

THE BEST

WANTED starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman and has a set release date of June 27,2008.

When this trailer started, my first instinct was that this was Tomb Raider 3. We have seen Jolie in this role before, plenty of times. But I have to admit, that it doesn't get old! It has been a couple of years since Mr. and Mrs. Smith has come out, and I am ready for the action. Hollywood's ultimate humanitarian can still kick everybody's ass while looking gorgeous!

And as if the star-power of Jolie and Freeman wasn't enough, the movie adds James McAvoy to the mix. He has certainly made a name for himself in the romance movies with his films Becoming Jane and most recently, and Oscar-nominated, Atonement, so it will be a nice switch seeing a different side of him.

MY PREDICTIONS:
From the film, you can tell that McAvoy is going to avenge his father's death-a very basic plotline! I am sure that it will be a movie that will be appreciated for the action and cinematic beauty, and not for the storyline. But the hardest part to predict is the ending. I think, because that is how it usually happens, somebody will turn on the "fraternity." I think it will by Jolie. The trailer makes it look like a love connection between her and McAvovy, but it is all a setup.

THE WORST

IRON MAN starring Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow with a release date of May 2, 2008.

I think the reason this is not going to be a good movie, is because they cast Robert Downey Jr. as a super hero. Granted, I don't know anything about the real comic book hero, but it just seems that they could have found somebody else to fill the role. There are plenty of actors that can pull of box office action, womanizer and humor. Johnny Depp anyone? Although, with the high profile supporting cast and all the expenses going into set, costuming and explosions, maybe they just didn't have anymore money to get a better person!

MY PREDICTION:
In the trailer, Downey is extremely rude, so by the end of the movie, he will be a better person, committed to the love of his life, Paltrow. Of course, along the way, he will save the world effortlessly!

Sex and the City: The Movie

There is only one thing that gets me as excited as moving sidewalks, and that is movie trailers. Movie trailers make or break the box office. Good movies are ruined by bad trailers that give too much away, and horrible movies are saved by exciting previews (remember Evan Almighty?) So, I dedicate my first blog to my first love, the silver screen!

To kick off my blog, here is the trailer to the movie that will kick off the summer blockbuster season! I am so excited about this movie. I have been waiting for it since I saw my first episode on DVD. (I was a little behind on the hysteria because I didn't have HBO growing up!)

Sex and the City: The Movie has a scheduled release date of May 30, 2008. The series ended with Charlotte and Miranda married, Samantha with Smith and Carrie with John, a.k.a. Mr. Big.

The plot of the movie is a big secret, although filming in Manhattan has certainly taken its toll on the secrecy of the plot. I have seen pictures of Carrie in a wedding gown and Charlotte pregnant, although, people have said those were just dream sequences. I certainly hope not! I don't want a good movie ruined by a cheesy dream sequence.

I have tried to avoid any news about the movie because I want everything to be a complete surprise. More than anything, I can't wait to see what Patricia Field has in store for the girls! I was surprised she didn't win the Oscar for dressing the Devil Wears Prada. Without even seeing a second of her choices for this movie, I can guarantee an Oscar for her next year.

PREDICTIONS FOR THE MOVIE:
Here are my predictions for this film. I believe Samantha and Smith are going to breakup. One of the couples has to. Charlotte and Miranda both have children, so breaking up the marriage would be to complicated for one movie with four different storylines. And Carrie and Big aren't serious enough to go through a serious breakup.

Jennifer Hudson is being introduced into the mix as Carrie's personal assistant. So the question is, where is Carrie getting the money to have an assistant? She has always had money problems and spent too much on shoes, so that means the assistant comes from one of two sources...Big or she has a new job. I think Carrie is going to be hired to write a new book, and that is where Hudson comes into play.

Also, my big prediction, somebody will die. The studio has to do something big to separate it from the television show. It won't be any of the four women, viewers would be to upset. I think it will either be Mr. Big, Smith or, my leading candidate, Stanford!

Regardless of what happens, I cannot wait to see the film! I already have my Jimmy Choos and martinis ready for opening weekend!
