88 Minutes

88 MINUTES
starring Al Pacino, Benjamin Mackenzie and LeeLee Sobieski. This film will be released April 18, 2008.

Normally, I showcase upcoming movies that I haven't seen. But, in this instance, I have already seen this movie. With my schedule being so busy, I generally watch movies online now. I know it is bad for the industry, and eliminates movie trailers, but a girl has to do what a girl has to do right?

So instead of my predictions for this movie, I will give you a little bit of a review...

First, I saw this trailer when I saw the movie Vantage Point in the theater. It looked absolutely amazing! I mean, Pacino is in it! So I was pleasantly surprised when the movie showed up on davidmovie.com. (That site and watch-movies.net are my favorite sites to watch pirated movies!)

ABOUT THE MOVIE...

Well, the trailer makes it seem like there is this unexpected twist. The only problem is, it never came. It was a good story, but there just wasn't that moment that shocked me. About 20 minutes into the film, I was like "Do I already know who the killer is?" And by the end of the movie, it turns out I did. There was even a point when after everything was "resolved," that I thought, maybe it is coming, but no, no twist in this movie.

Also, the title was a little confusing. I know why he has 88 minutes to live. They made that clear, but I didn't see what it had to do with the rest of the story. There was no connection.

I don't want to discourage you from seeing the film, but you might want to wait and Netflix it or you can always watch it online now!

The Little Mermaid

While I was in New York, I got the opportunity to see The Little Mermaid on Broadway. It was a spectacular show. The costumes and sets were amazing. The songs...classic! It stayed close enough to the movie for me to love! I haven't seen the movie in a number of years, but I definitely need to go back and watch it. I thought posting this trailer would mix things up a bit. I love upcoming movie trailers because it is a preview into an unknown world, but I also like going back and watching old clips to see how well they promoted the movie.

I think Disney did an excellent job on this one!

This is VERY exciting...

This is great news for the movie trailer business!

Here is an excellent example of what they are talking about...

SXSW

Being a resident of Austin, one of the highlights of the year is always South By Southwest (SXSW), which always happens to take place during the University of Texas' spring break. Unfortunately, I don't get to partake in the wonderful festivities this year because I am going to New York City for the week. Out of all the wonderful showcases, there are two that really stand out to me...

HAROLD AND KUMAR 2

HAROLD AND KUMAR 2: ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY starring Kal Penn and John Cho. The film is being released April 25, 2008.

I am a HUGE fan of the original. I have been waiting for this film since the last second of the original. It is nice to see everybody return, including Neil Patrick Harris! Although, I think it will be interesting to see if they address his sexual orientation. In the last movie, NPH was a womanizer, and he has since come out to the public as gay. I also love David Krumholtz and Eddie Kaye Thomas as Goldstein and Rosenberg (a take on the classic Shakespearean characters Rosencrantz and Guildestern!)

21

21 starring Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth and Laurence Fishburne. The film is scheduled for release March 28, 2008.

By now, you have probably seen the thousands of television spots for this film. But I think it is worth mentioning that the film will be screening in Austin. The film is based on a true story, which means it will be awesome, since, I like to believe, they won't make million dollar movies on stories that are boring. I can't stand Bosworth, but my love for Spacey will compensate for her! And who doesn't want to take down the house? Vegas has taken a lot of my money, so I like seeing movies where the people win! That is why I love all the Ocean movies, or maybe it is just George Clooney!

The Love Guru

THE LOVE GURU starring Mike Myers, Jessica Alba, and Justin Timberlake, just to name a few. The feature film is set to be released June 20th.

Where do I even begin with this? Honestly, I have no idea what to expect. It looks like Austin Powers Four! Mr. Myers tends to keep to the format of what makes him money! This millennium, Myers has stuck to playing two characters, a giant green one and a disturbing horney one. The only other two movies (The Cat in the Hat and The View from the Top) he has been in, have both been flops! Not only is he sticking to the format, but he is sticking to the costars. Justin Timberlake (Shrek 3) and Verne Troyer (Mini Me) both have roles in the film. I wouldn't be surprised if Princess Fiona made a quick cameo.

The biggest thing I am worried about is Alba. She doesn't have the best history at the box office! A local radio DJ said, "I know a movie is going to be awful is she is in it." I tend to agree with that point. I thought Good Luck Chuck was good, but she could have easily been replaced! She is not a good actress, just a pretty one!

Lastly, I am waiting to see the guest stars. On big comedies, such as this one, there are always little cameos by some big names who want to think they are funny. Think back to the last Austin Powers - Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow and John Travolta! Jessica Simpson is listed in the credits, so that should be interesting. Myers is big enough were he can call his friends to play the most ridiculous parts. Who knows who will sing the opening credits with him this time!
